Sausage Pony

3.31.09

The quarter is beginning, and already it’s not shaping up to be the most enlightening one so far. The photography class I wanted to take was swarmed with over 300 people. Scratch that. Sadly, in June of 2007 there is a post of me doing try do the same (photo class) but failing for different reasons. The class I’m TA’ing for has half that, but still many more than expected. And this third class, which I’m basically sort of browsing, contains a lot of material that is not the most interesting for me personally.

To compensate for this lackluster post, here’s another hilarious dream of mine, from August of last year:

We were with Paul and the rest of my labmates, as well as some other random people at a luaua where the “theme” was catch-your-own-dinner. And PAUL, good lord, had the cutest bear cub ever, and he was chasing it around and it was making the cutest face ever. And I asked him, how are you going to eat something that cute? And he just said “I like yummy yummy things.”

Microwave Light

There’s an odd intersection on the way to St. Bede’s where a man, for the past two days, has driven a Subaru filled with junk to drop off under a sign reading “FREE STUFF!” Goodies yesterday included some things I would have stopped for, like a big duffel bag, had I not been on the way to the St. Bede’s Men’s Retreat (which was basically a film-watching session). On the way back items included weird things like a 3-d cardboard reindeer and some pieces of wood. Today, he was assembling a 7′ Christmas tree alongside a large plastic faux-wood stump.

Did he just take down his tree this weekend? And is it really worth reassembling on the street? And… uh…

Pink Butter

3.27.09

Thanks for the patience as I transition. Most of the workflow issues are solved–local flickr uploads for daily posts, plus an additional compilation. Updates may be a little funky until I get the hang of the system. Big, BIG props to Justin for setting this beautiful site up. If you need professional web design–well, this is as good of a business card as any.

Well, let’s begin this blog with a really horrible dream. I woke up (within the dream) in Paris, on a street corner, in bright morning light. Christina was with me, as was her friend Pati. We entered a French cafe, which appeared to be closing for a mid-day siesta of sorts. I looked at the menu and finally turned to the mustachioed clerk and asked for a donut, pointing toward a pink donut.

The clerk, dressed in a very stereotypical apron, took up a half-eaten pink donut and with his butter knife scooped off the pink frosting. Then, mumbling something about how it was only half a donut, he proceeded to also scoop off the pink frosting from another pink donut. He then took this knife, covered now in pink butter cream frosting, and shoved it into a third donut so that the frosting was now in the middle.

Hang on to your hearts– he then took out a can of what appeared to be whipped frosting, looked at me, and asked “butter?” My dream-self, lacking a prefrontal cortex, shrugged and said yes. He then pressed the nozzle and a frothy stream of flowery solid butter smothered the pink-frosting stuffed donut. With relish he then spread out this butter and handed it to me. I ate it. When I woke up, I felt ill–the kind of faintly delicious illness associated with eating a stick of butter.
